Kuderna-Danish evaporative concentrators are used to concentrate trace amounts of sample dissolved in organic solvents. The Snyder column is designed to speed evaporation with minimal hold-up.
The column should be pre-wetted with the solvent to be used in the concentration in order to minimize initial sample loss. The flask is then filled with solvent to between 40 and 60 percent of capacity. The charged apparatus should then be mounted over a boiling water bath so that the water level is maintained just below the lower ground joint, bathing the bottom of the flask with steam. The concentrator tube will collect the final sample for further analysis.
Proper safety precautions should always be followed. If solvent vapors are allowed to escape, the entire apparatus should be placed in a well-ventilated fume hood. 1 Keck Clamp, hooks, and a set of springs included.
